The Voice of the Average Christian - A Lesson in Courage.

Hey Fellow Prayer Warriors,

Who said our voices, as Christians, will not be heard? A few days ago, I had the opportunity to interview character actress, Siobhan Fallon-Hogan who stars alongside Renee Zellweger and Harry Connick Jr. in the new film, “New In Town,” which was rated PG-13. During our conversation, we covered many topics, including the fact that she’s a Christian trying to make a difference in Hollywood, but she shared something interesting with me. While screening the film last week with the media, her fellow actors and the producers, there were moments of uncomfortably for Siobhan. When the film was over, she decided to express her uneasiness with the producer, her boss mind you. I will paraphrase, but you can hear the interview in its entirety on Gospelcity.com.

He asked her what she thought of the film. She said, “ Good, but I have one bone to pick with you. I would like to bring my family to this film, but how can I do that when is has all of this profanity in it? Is it really necessary?” After sharing that he too had some apprehensions, they parted ways. A few days later, Siobhan received a call from the producer who decided to edit the film, take out the profanity and change the rating to PG.

How amazing is that?!?!?!?!?

You may not recognize her name, but if you Google her, you will certainly know who she is. We need to keep Siobhan and her endeavors as a Christian actress in prayers. Next time the producer may not be may not be as morally, ethically or spiritually stricken.

Would you have done the same? Could you have been this brave with your boss?

Share.

Prayer Plane - Flight 1549

My Fellow Prayer Warriors,

How amazing is God? Did you see what He did with Flight 1549 that crashed in the Henry Hudson River in NYC yesterday? Although the pilot is to be highly commended for his quick thinking and ability to perform under tons of pressure, God steered that plane. It has been said over and over in the news, since yesterday and today that NEVER has a plane been successful at landing so perfectly in water. Normally, they are able to land, but the plane does either, blow up or crash and sink.

Many of the passengers have been heard saying that praying was the only thing they could do. That must have been the largest prayer plane in a very long time.

While watching Matt Lauer on GMA, there was a woman who shared that she is a born again Christian, and naturally, she began to pray when told there inevitable fate. I began to weep when I also heard her say that while she was praying, she could hear the flight attendants, collectively, praying over the intercom system. If you can imagine that, tell me if it seems like one of those God moments when He so lovingly whispers His words of comfort to us in our most stressful moments.

Praying for the Most Influential Zip Code and People

Well Gang,

I want to introduce you to the Hollywood Prayer Network, for which I am the New York City Chapter Director. Read below for more information.

The Hollywood Prayer Network is a non-denominational Christian prayer ministry aimed at encouraging Christians across the world to pray for both the Christian and non-Christian professionals in Hollywood so that we can change Hollywood and the product it produces through prayer. Created by California TV producer Karen Covell, it links intercessors with Christian professionals to pray one-on-one and it gives out monthly emails to prayer warriors to pray for the entertainment industry and the people working here. They reach out to CHRISTIANS BOTH INSIDE AND OUTSIDE HOLLYWOOD through prayer.

More than anything else, Karen desires to see that the overtly influential entertainment industry and media in Hollywood remain influential but positive and family friendly. She was lead to start this ministry with the sole purpose of praying for the people, their projects and the powerful influence of the Entertainment Industry.

Hollywood Prayer Network’s commitment is to reach three specific groups of people:

1. Christians living outside of Hollywood who want to know how God is moving and working in Hollywood or who know He’s moving here and want to be a part of what He’s doing through prayer.

2. Christian media professionals living and working in the industry who need prayer support from the Christian community and the church.

3. Media professionals in Hollywood who don’t yet know the love and life-saving gospel of Jesus Christ and may only find Him through prayer.

Our Prayer Goals:

Only prayer can unite individuals, churches and para-church organizations across the world to recognize Hollywood as a mission field. HPN mobilizes them to pray for the Hollywood entertainment industry instead of hating the people here or boycotting it’s programming.

Only prayer can lead the Christian Entertainment community into a closer relationship with the Lord and into closer unity with one another.

Only prayer can lead more non-Christians to commit their lives to Jesus.

Only prayer can impact Hollywood and its product.

Our specific goal, for the New York Chapteris to create a generalized outreach plan that outlines the importance of believers being a powerful and influential force in praying to God that the executives’ hearts are softened to the materials that they write and except, that the press is moved to tell the story as it happened and not spring for the sensationalized substitute and pray that the talent is moved to make better moral, ethical and spiritual choices in the roles they choose.

We will imitate several of the significant practices originated by the California Chapter. For instance, we will host prayer vigils, prayer walks, seek prayer requests from movie and TV executives as well as actors and actresses as they prepare for upcoming films and filming, we will pray for the younger generation of entertainers and their parents along with a host of events to show our support for those in prayer.

Join us as we Pray. Also, please feel free to post your specific prayer requests, testimonies, thoughts etc.
